Bamberg to Verona through the Alps!

Today we left Bamberg with a bit of sadness.  It is a unique and beautiful town and it would be nice to return.  We got a taxi to the Bahnhof and caught our train to Munich where we transferred to our next train to Verona.  We shared our compartment with a nice German family making a break for warmer weather for the Easter long weekend.

The trip through the Alps was interesting.  There was lots of fresh snow from the same weather we had in Bamberg.  There were also castles, something you don't get much of in Banff, or Jasper.  After climbing up through the Brenner Pass and transiting Austria through Innsbruck (and Heidi country), we began our descent into Italy.  The sun came out and soon we were passing through valleys chocked with vineyards.

We arrived in Verona at about 5 PM and then walked to our hotel along the canal.  We have a beautiful room - clean, big and modern - at the Montresor Hotel Palace.  We dropped our bags and then headed out to reconnoiter the sites for tomorrow.  We passed through the City Walls and stopped at the Church of San Zeno, a martyr of the 3rd C.  Then we carried on to the Forteza (Castle) and the Arena.  It's a small area, but somehow we managed to get lost and wandered for about an hour.  We opted for snacks from a bar and fruit from a stand for dinner and returned to the hotel.

We can't wait until tomorrow to get back to the centro storico and see what the City has to offer!
