Our much anticipated trip!

With Ian's love of classical studies, and Margaret's love of history and all things cultural, we have been planning this trip for over two years.  It has been through many incarnations, from doing a sort of "highlights of Europe" type of trip to just staying in one country.  For the first six weeks of our trip, it will be just the two of us, which means we can indulge our strange taste for all things ancient and dusty.

Our trip begins March 22nd, when we will fly to Istanbul.  We will visit Istanbul first, then fly to Kayseri and Goreme, fly to Ankara, and then off to Pamukkale.  We will spend four weeks in Turkey, then visit the islands of Kos, Rhodes, Crete, Mykonos, and Delos before flying into Athens.

On May 2nd, we will be joined by Ian's mother, Dorothy; Margaret's mother, Beverley; and our niece Alanna in one of our favourite places on the planet, Venice Italy.  We have rented a small apartment for a week just off St. Mark's square, and are very excited to be sharing a place we love with people we love.

Our next stop will be Tetbury, England, in the Cotswolds.  We have again rented a cottage and hope to make day trips out to Bath, Gloucester, Stratford-upon-Avon, and perhaps Oxford.

Ian, Dorothy, and Beverley will wend their respective ways home on May 15th, while Alanna and Margaret will continue for ten days through northern England and Scotland, finishing with five days in London, doing all of the things that geeky English teachers (and students) do.
We can’t wait.
